I have a “few” pieces in my stash that I’ve tucked away just for US. They (these pieces) and I wait ever-so-patiently for the right time to work them into a space in our home. Each and every one, I have a “plan” for. An antique bakers cupboard was for our laundry room dream reno in 2020. A double-wide deep farmhouse sink is for what I hope our 2023/2024 mudroom dream reno, and this antique washstand is for our 2022 main bathroom dream reno.

Although a touch too wide for our teensy tiny bathroom (8′ x 5′), I was bound and determined to make it work! I have just a “touch” of stubbornness and determination in me… so I’m on my way to making it work! My ever-so-patient and good hubby is once again riding along with my idea.

My Farmhouse Vanity Furniture Flip process:

  • Disassembled/removed mirror ~ worth the time and effort to ease product application
  • Removed original/tarnished hardware from drawers ~ with plans to replace
  • Removed/replaced drawer bottoms ~ terribly warped and cracked, thus replacement required
  • Cut hole in top ~ in preparation for vessel sink placement
  • Altered top drawer ~ in preparation for plumbing hook-up
  • Lessened width of top ~ because I was bound and determined to make it fit in our space, and every inch counts
  • Lightly sanded down body and bottom 2 drawers, and heavily sanded top, harp, and 1st drawer ~ to prepare for product adhesion
  • Thoroughly vacuumed and washed piece ~ certainly required before transforming preloved furniture
  • Applied 2 coats of COUNTRY CHIC PAINT in the colour ‘Liquorice’ to the body and bottom 2 drawers ~ a deep charcoal black that can be either classic and timeless, or elegant and modern
  • Applied 2 coats of COUNTRY CHIC PAINT in the colour ‘Sunday Tea to interior drawers and cupboard ~ a warm greyish colour, not quite grey and not quite beige; resulting in the most charming neutral tone
  • Sanded down for a buttery smooth and slightly distressed finish ~ for the farmhouse chic look I adore and always strive for
  • Applied multiple coats of Varathane’s ‘DIAMOND WOOD FINISH‘ (water-based, satin) to the body, bottom 2 drawers, and all interior drawers/cupboard ~ to achieve a crystal clear, water-resistant, and highly durable finish
  • Conditioned, stained and heavily varnished top, harp, and 1st drawer (colour ‘Jacobean’) ~ for a two-toned transformation
  • Purchased and installed new ‘Classic Suite Hardware‘ ~ personally selected from Lee Valley
  • Decoupaged drawer-sides with Re-Design with Prima’s DARK DAMASK TISSUE PAPER my hands-down favourite pattern
  • Purchased and installed new vessel sink ~ Home Depot find
  • Purchased and installed new antique brass faucet ~ Kingston Brass find
  • Reassemble/secure mirror ~ on my list for this weekend
  • Bring into our new bathroom space and hook up to water ~ on my list for the moment everything else (amidst the reno) is ready for us to do so

A furniture flip for our home! Once antique washstand, now modern farmhouse vanity. Perfectly equipped with side cupboard for drainpipe, allowing us to maintain most of the original drawer storage. Although we had to alter placement of the mirror w/ harp and sadly remove the charming towel rack, doing so will provide the sweetest fit in our teensy tiny bathroom space. New vessel sink is a perfect fit, and antique brass farmhouse faucet is in my mind icing on the cake! I have every intention of sharing a full reno reveal with y’all later this month or more realistically February timeframe! I’m just a ‘wee’ bit excited; as I’ve ‘only’ waited 23 years for this much needed bathroom reno. Bye bye rotting tub, mouldy window, dreadful lighting, sorry n’ sad walls, and water-damaged vanity. Hello farmhouse fabulous bathroom dream!

* All of my furniture pieces are preloved, with expected signs of age and use — sweet imperfections which I believe adds to their unique character and charm.
