Hmmm… where troubles melt like lemon drops… sounds delightful doesn’t it? Sounds like home to me!

What does home sound, feel, and smell like for you? Perhaps a warm bed on a cold winter morning… fresh pie baking in the oven… rain pattering against the window?

Mmmm… there’s no place like home. <3

I was a lucky girl to come across three 10-foot church pews, that were shouting “RESTORE AND TRANSFORM ME PLEASE”… bellows from high above the mountain tops! Although 10-feet of bench works just lovely in a church… five-feet of bench in ones’ home is what we want right?! Ah yes like-minded farm charm fanatics… all it takes is some precious time and pleasing products.

My transformation process:

• Disassembled original 10-foot length ~ oh so very carefully
• Stored-away one of the 5-foot lengths and unfinished-middle-end ~ for another future bench transformation/restoration project
• Secured finished-end to the 5-foot length ~ to achieve matching-ends
• Purposely added dings, dents, scratches and worm holes to the entire piece ~ to create sweet imperfections of a long and beautifully lived life
• Lightly sanded down entire piece ~ to remove flaking finish and to prepare for product adhesion
• Thoroughly vacuumed and washed entire piece ~ certainly required before transforming any piece of preloved furniture
• Stained and varnished entire piece with Minwax ‘Jacobean’ Wood Finish Stain, and Wipe-On Poly ~ and watched the colour soak in exactly like I envisioned
• Black-wash applied Country Chic Paint in the colour ‘Liquorice‘ to the entire piece ~ to achieve even more charming aged depth
• Varnished entire piece again with Minwax Wipe-On Poly ~ and there you have it… a bench that now feels like a warm c’mon in hug
