My 43rd birthday recently passed by, and although I certainly didn’t need, want or expect any gifts — as always my Mom asked me “What would you like for your birthday?”… and as always my response was “Absolutely nothing Mom, I got everything I need, nothing that I don’t.”
AND… as always my Mom got me a gift, and as always… it was the most PERFECT gift ever! Can you believe that she wasn’t sure if I’d like this vintage breadbox n’ canister set?! LIKE?! I LOVE this MOM! You couldn’t have found me a more charming gift, AND… do you realize what a HUGE thrift score find this is?! <3
My Mom knows me better than she thinks! She knows how much I love a good thrift find, she knows how much I love anything vintage, antique and farmhouse style! She knows how much I like to chalk paint, she knows how much I love to get my shabby farmhouse chic on… and she knows how much I love her! <3
I could hardly wait to get started with transforming my birthday present! Once I got around to it, this is how it went for me:
- Lightly sanded down all pieces from set
- Applied 1 coat of Country Chic Paint’s ‘All-In-One Decor Paint’ in the most beautiful green EVER — ‘Rustic Charm’ (the name says it ALL)
- Applied 1 coat of Country Chic Paint’s ‘Antiquing Wax’
- Installed new hardware 🙂
OH… in case you’re wondering… that beauty Corelle dish set you see in my pics… that set was once my Mama’s… another PERFECT gift she once gave me. OH… and in case you’re also wondering about the table I set my breadbox and canisters on to share pics with you… that was a slightly damaged but beautiful old piano bench I recently stumbled across amidst my thrift exploring… which was FULL of old music, newspapers and more! That music will be a gift to my Mom from me! <3
Yes — I got everything I need, nothing that I don’t. <3

Happy Belated Birthday! 🎉🎂🍰 What a great gift! I LOVE that green. They turned out so neat. Love the piano bench and the Corelle, too. My folks still use Corelle dishes. Love them. 💜
My Mom gave me those Corelle dishes when we married almost 20 years ago! She had likely used them for 20+ years herself prior to giving them to me! And I know for certain we’ll be using them for at least another 20 years! <3
