After 30 minutes of standing in my local thrift store, pacing back and forth and around this sweet little lost and forgotten end table, and asking myself “should I?”, “do I have a place for it?”, “do I really need it?”, “will I be able to find the time to give it the love it deserves?”… I finally said to myself “Oh for goodness sakes Faye, it’s only $13! Buy it already!”. And I’m oh so glad I did!
This is what this little flower looked like when I brought it home… sadly wilted, and desperately in need of much love and sunshine:
Perhaps you might think that “love is only for the lucky and the strong” — I think otherwise. Even this little piece could be loved, and it certainly wasn’t looking lucky and strong when I came across it.
“I say love, it is a flower, and you, its only seed” — I was more than happy to give this piece all the love and sunshine it needed and deserved:
My love for this piece began one evening by removing the hardware, stripping and sanding the top, and lightly sanding the body. I then proceeded to give the table top 2 coats of stain, and the body 2 coats of Country Chic Paint’s “All-In-One Decor Paint” in my favourite ‘Cheesecake’ colour.
The next morning, I finished the piece off by polishing the tarnished knobs, lightly sanding the body in areas that would naturally wear, and giving the table top 2 coats of varnish. Once the varnish dried, I gave the body an antiquing effect by applying Country Chic Paint’s “Antiquing Wax”, followed by their “Natural Wax”. While finishing this piece up, I could honestly feel love coming back to me from the piece itself! <3
Perhaps you too will feel the love by looking at these pics. P.S. The adorable vintage chair you see in the pics, was found by my very own Pappy at the garbage dump… yes — it really is true — “one’s trash is another’s treasure” — I was elated to receive this delightful treasure from my Dad, to also give it some love and a new life… and I feel it pairs quite charmingly with my new end table:
Everything and everyone deserves love. I have been blessed with a life of generous loving, and in turn have much love to give — even to furniture!
“Just remember in the winter, far beneath the bitter snows. Lies the seed, that with the sun’s love in the spring becomes The Rose.” <3
I wish for you a spring full of the sun’s love, and hope you visit again! My #farmlifebestlife awaits more simple living, generous loving and constant learning. ❤
